SWALLOWS

Swallows are small, lean birds with brownish red faces and throats and blue coats with light stomachs. A cliff swallow has a squared tail and barn swallows have forked tails. They spend summers in North America and arrive here around March, signaling spring. Swallows are a protected species and should be removed by professionals that are familiar with protection laws.
Their colonies can be made up of thousands of birds and it requires skill to keep them away.

DAMAGES FROM SWALLOWS

Droppings from any bird can be very acidic. Paint, signage and other surfaces on your building can be very damaged by the droppings from swallows. They will build mud nests on walls and eaves making it easy for droppings to become very visible on the outside of your building. Damages for commercial buildings can go beyond physical damage. The appearance of your building can deter customers from entering your business. Removing the birds and the mess they leave behind can be an important part of keeping your customers and your employees safe. Swallows are known carriers of parasites that you do not want in your building.

SWALLOW DETERRENTS

Because the swallow colonies can be large, there will likely be many nests. They build the nests with mud and fill them with grass and other materials. It is illegal to disturb the nest once eggs are laid in them so removal of the nests has to happen during winter months when the birds migrate to South America. After the nests are removed, deterrents can be installed. Netting, bird wires, shock strips and bird slides are a few of the options we can use to keep the swallows from nesting on your building again.
