SPARROW CONTROL

Sparrows are the second most popular bird pest in cities throughout the US. They are small , brown or black colored birds and they are members of the Weaverbird family. Which means they build amazingly intricate nests. Sparrows eat seeds, grains, fruits and vegetables but, like other pest birds, they will scavenge for scraps left behind by humans.

These intelligent birds are very noisy and they love to roost on trees, walls and on ledges on buildings. When nesting they prefer small enclosed locations like shutters, piping and siding. The nests are fairly large and sometimes are home to several sparrow families.

WHEN DO SPARROWS BREED

Sparrows will gladly stay in the city during cold weather months. They do not migrate, but they will look for warm spots to make their own. Sometimes that means moving other birds out of their way. They are not particularly nice birds. Usually, they will only mate for a season but they can multiply pretty quickly. Just one breeding pair can become over two thousand birds in about three years. Do not allow them to stay on your property.

DAMAGES FROM SPARROWS

Damages from sparrows can be extensive, especially where they build their nests. Clogged vents and gutters or other pipes can lead to leaks and water damage. Some vents can become a fire hazard when filled with flammable nesting materials as well. It does not stop there, contamination can also be a problem. The most common problem is the droppings they create. Feces can be extremely acidic which can cause damage to concrete, wood, metals and other materials on your building. These droppings are filled with bacteria, fungi and parasites that are dangerous to humans. A sparrow infestation can translate into costly damages if not controlled.

SPARROW DETERRENTS

There are so many options when it comes to bird control. Which one you need depends largely on what type of bird you are dealing with. The type of structure you have is another factor. For Sparrows, we recommend several options. Shock strips are very effective electrical deterrents that deliver a low shock to birds attempting to roost in an unwanted area. Bird traps are a great way to remove the birds so that deterrents can be installed on the building. Netting is the last choice. It can be put on almost any structure, it is strong and lasts a long time. We can inspect your property and advise you on the best option.
